In a significant development for Pakistani cricket, Mohsin Naqvi has been appointed as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unopposed. Naqvi's appointment comes after a period of speculation and anticipation regarding the future leadership of the board.

PCB has always been in the news for all the wrong reasons possible. However, the instability in leadership has grabbed fans' attention in the recent past. In the past couple of years, the board witnessed a change in leadership after almost every quarter.

After Ramiz Raja quit his post, Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf served for a few months. However, after Pakistan lost the ODI World Cup and Asia Cup under Ashraf's supervision, the latter relinquished his chairman duties, and accordingly, Shah Khawar was appointed as interim chief.

Khawar's primary responsibility was to conduct proper elections and oversee the appointment of a new full-time chief.

The elections were held earlier today, and as per Pakistan media, Mohsin Naqvi, nominated by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq, was elected as the new chairman of PCB unopposed. The board of governors took part in the voting process and unanimously agreed on Naqvi's candidacy.

The newly elected chairman will resume office immediately and carry on for the next three years. Interestingly, Mohsin Naqvi is PCB's sixth chairman in the past 15 months period.

Mohsin Naqvi, a seasoned administrator with a wealth of experience in cricket management, brings a fresh perspective and a vision for the development and growth of cricket in Pakistan.

That being said, Naqvi spoke to GEO news and said he is committed to fixing the issues troubling Pakistan cricket. Reforms are the need of the hour and he will do everything in his power to bring a positive change.

That being said, the first big task at Naqvi's helm is to build a relationship of trust with its contracted players. He needs to provide the clarity the players seek, which has resulted in a situation of unrest in recent times.
