According to emerging reports, experienced wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan is all set to replace Babar Azam as Pakistan's new white-ball captain. As reported by the Press Trust of India, the Pakistan Cricket Board will soon announce Rizwan as the ODI and T20I captain before the side's upcoming assignments against Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Pakistan's selectors have had a meeting with the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, apart from discussing the matter with their white-ball coach Gary Kirsten. Speaking to PTI, a reliable source stated that Mohammad Rizwan is the front-runner to become Babar Azam's successor, considering his seniority and reliability as a keeper-batter.

"Rizwan because of his seniority, his reliability as a player and because of his experience of leading teams well in domestic cricket and PSL is a front runner to become white ball captain,” a source told PTI.

The source said the selectors will likely include Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah in the white ball squad after being rested and sidelined for the last two Tests against England.

Mohammad Rizwan's Credentials As A Player And Captain

A gritty batter who never gives up, Mohammad Rizwan has enjoyed stellar success in white-ball cricket. In 67 ODI innings, the right-handed batter has amassed 2088 runs, including three centuries and thirteen half-centuries. However, he is known for his T20I exploits, scoring 3313 runs at an average of 48.72 in the shortest format. He is Pakistan's most reliable batter across formats and has been a vital cog in their white-ball setup.

Apart from his batsmanship, Rizwan has had an impressive captaincy stint with Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League. A shrewd tactician, Rizwan can certainly take Pakistan to greater heights with his inspirational leadership and strategic acumen.
