Mithali Raj has inspired many through her two-decade-long career: PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi has appreciated India women’s team ODI captain Mithali Raj and has said that the right-handed batter’s story is inspiring. Mithali became the first Indian woman cricketer to score 10000 runs across the formats.

"Indian cricket team's Mithali Raj recently became the first Indian woman cricketer to complete 10,000 runs in international cricket. Many congratulations to her on this achievement. She is also the first woman cricketer to score 7,000 runs in ODIs. Her contribution to women's cricket is brilliant," PM Modi said during the 75th episode of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat'.

"She has inspired many through her two-decade-long career. Her story of hard work and success is an inspiration to not only women but also men cricketers," he added.

The Indian cricketer thanked PM Modi and tweeted, “Acknowledgement of milestones achieved in my career from our Hon’ble Prime minister Sri @narendramodi ji is a very big honour for me ,” she wrote.

Mithali added another feather to her hat after becoming the first woman cricketer to score 7000 ODI runs. She has represented India in 214 ODIs, 89 T20Is and 10 Test matches. She has notched up over 7000 runs in ODIs while has scored 2364 runs in T20Is and 663 in Tests respectively.

Raj made her ODI debut for India against Ireland back in 1999 and has been an integral part of the side since then. She first represented India in the longer format in 2002 against England while played her debut T20I against the same opposition in 2006.

IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma-Shikhar Dhawan partnership accumulates 5,000 ODI runs in ODIs

Establishing their dominance over the fifty-over format, India’s openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have become the seventh most successful batting pair in the history of One-Day cricket. The duo achieved the feat with a 100-run partnership in the third ODI of the series against England. They have added more than 5,000 runs in partnerships in ODIs and is only the second pair after the iconic opening pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly who had amassed as many as 8,227 runs in their partnerships. The pair of Tendulkar-Ganguly sits at the top of the pile in terms of runs scored by a batting pair and there is no pair close to them. The list of most successful batting pairs is dominated by top-order batsmen, more so by Sri Lankan batsmen. The second most successful pair in ODIs is between Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene who has had 5,992 runs, followed by the partnership of Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sangakkara which accumulated 5,475 runs. They are closely followed by the partnership between Marvan Atapattu and Sanath Jayasuriya who amassed 5,462 runs. The next two successful partnerships have been between Australian openers Adam Gilchrist and Mathew Hayden and Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge.

After Tendulkar and Yusuf Pathan, Badrinath tests positive for Covid-19

The saga of Indian Legends players testing positive for Covid-19 continues as Subramaniam Badrinath, a former India batter and member of the India Legends team at the Road Safty World Series has tested positive for the dreaded virus. Informing about the news, Badrinath, 40, tweeted a photo saying, “I have been taking all necessary precautions and have been getting tested regularly. However, I have tested POSITIVE for Covid-19 and have some mild symptoms.” The former Chennai Super Kings players further added that he will be isolating himself at home with all the necessary protocols on the advice of his physician. Badrinath is the third Indian Legends player after legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar and former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan to have participated in the Road Safety World Series T20 tournament and tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier yesterday morning Tendulkar revealed that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and later in the evening the senior Pathan tweeted about his health condition, informing that he too had contracted Covid-19.

Pakistan announce schedule of Zimbabwe tour; to play 3 T20Is, 2 Tests in Harare

Pakistan have announced the schedule of their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe where they will play a T20I and Test series against the hosts. The tour will begin with a three-match long T20I series scheduled on April 21, 23, 25 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. Following the T20 series, Pakistan will play Test matches in the African nations after a long gap of eight years. There are two Test matches scheduled to be played at the same venue from April 29 and May 07. Notably, all five matches of the series will be played behind closed doors. Pakistan side under the leadership of captain Babar Azam and head coach Misbah ul Haq are on the tour of South Africa. They will lock horns with the hosts South Africa over a three-match ODI and a four-match T20I series spanning between April 02 to April 16. The side will then embark on the tour of Zimbabwe for the T20I and Test series against Zimbabwe.

AB de Villiers to play in Nepal’s Everest Premier League 2021

The Cricket Association of Nepal and the governing council of Everest Premier League (EPL), the premier T20 tournament of the country were delighted to announce the onboarding of one of the Mega Stars of T20 cricket, South Africa’s AB de Villiers. Mr. 360 would be playing in the EPL this September October as confirmed by Aamir Akhtar, the Managing Director of EPL. “We are trying our best to bring top international cricketers for EPL to put Nepal in the frame of global cricket. We had tried to bring AB de Villiers the previous season as well but he couldn’t be available. In this edition, he has agreed to be here. If nothing comes in between, he will be playing at the TU grounds for sure,” Akhtar was quoted as saying to Cricketing Nepal. Prior to the upcoming edition, there has been only one edition of the league so far in 2018-19. It was graced by the presence of International stars like Kevin O’Brien, Paul Stirling, Rohan Mustafa, Roelof van der Merwe and Richard Levi. West Indian superstar Chris Gayle was supposed to play in the 2019-20 edition of the league, but that got postponed due to Covid-19. De Villiers, 37, would be part of either of the six franchises including Pokhra Rhinos, Lalitpur Patriots, Bhairahawa Gladiators, Chitwan Tigers, Biratnagar Warriors and Kathmandu Kings XI. Lalitpur Patriots are the defending champions. Known as Mr. 360 degrees, de Villiers, who has scored 9111 runs in his long T20 career with an average of 37.49 and a strike rate of 150.19 would soon be seen playing in the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
