MI Trading Rohit Sharma To Gujarat Titans Is Baseless Rumours: Reports

Rohit Sharma remains Mumbai Indians' (MI) renowned leader and an integral part of their plans ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), stated a report by Cricbuzz, which quashed the outside rumour doing the rounds on experienced opener going down the Gujarat Titans (GT) route.

Ever since the reports emerged that premier India allrounder and reigning Titans skipper Hardik Pandya could move back to MI colours after a two-year successful stint with the Gujarat franchise, another rumour went viral which had Pandya being traded in acquirement of no one else but Rohit.

Titans would've loved to secure the services of an immensely successful captain in Rohit if Pandya does leave a great vacuum but the Cricbuzz report put paid on those thoughts by insisting the entire rumour is "baseless" and there is no fire to the perceived smoke.

Denouncing speculations of the Rohit-Pandya swap aside, the Cricbuzz report also stated there won't be any player offered in return by the Mumbai franchise to reinsure their former allrounder's playing duties in the middle-order.

As they strive to return to their glory days after enduring a disastrous campaign in IPL 2023, MI are willing to pay cash worth INR 15 crores in a one-way trade plus the undisclosed transfer fee, of which half the money will have to be paid to Pandya in addition to his fresh contract.

MI will have to bolster their remaining purse ahead of the IPL 2024 auction for Pandya's return but it won't come at the expense of Rohit, their mighty leader, under whom the franchise has won five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

The franchise is instead set to release Cameron Green (INR 17.5 crore) and Jofra Archer (INR 8 crore) to swell their budget with another five crore sum allowed to be spent on players by the IPL governing council for the bidding war in Dubai.
