The Hundred 2022: Will Jacks whacks a ton as Invincibles trounce Brave's in a low-scoring affair

Will Jacks bludgeoned a magnificent century to steer the Oval Invincibles to a comprehensive 7-wicket victory against the Southern Brave in the 14th match of The Hundred at the Oval on Sunday, August 14.

A stellar bowling performance by the Invincibles first restricted Southern Brave to a below-par total of 137/6. In the later half, Will Jacks pulled out his murderous blade and belted an incredible century to kill the chase in 82 balls.

Will Jacks One-man show

Chasing a trifling total of 137, the hosts were jolted immediately as they lost their opener Jason Roy for a two-ball duck. However, that did not do anything to slow down the fellow opener Will Jacks, who was only dealing in boundaries.

Jacks penalised everything coming off the length and went on to whack an unbeaten knock of 108 runs -- the highest in the history of The Hundred- off just 48 deliveries to single-handedly win the game for his team. Sam Curran remained unbeaten for 11 off 12 at the other end.

For the defending champions, George Garton and James Fuller got a wicket each.

Reece Topley wrecks the Brave's batting lineup

Earlier, an excellent bowling display by Oval Invincibles helped them restrict Southern Brave at a below-par score of 137/6 in 20 overs.

The hard-hitting Australian Marcus Stoinis was the only batter who was able to stand tall against a quality bowling attack of the defending champions.

Stoinis peeled off 37 off 27 deliveries, including two fours and as many sixes. Tim David (17-ball 22) and Ross Whiteley (17-ball 18) chipped in with some valuable contributions to help Southern Brave reach 137/6 in 100 deliveries.

For the Invincibles, Reece Topley was the pick of the bowlers. The 28-year-old left-arm quick bagged a three-wicket haul for 24 runs in his spell of 20 balls. Apart from him, Sam Curran and Mohammad Hasnain also got a brace each.

It was the third successive victory for Oval Invincibles. Southern Brave, on the contrary, succumbed to their third consecutive loss of the season.

What's to come?

Southern Brave will be up against Manchester Originals in the 18th fixture of the tournament, set to be played on the 18th of August. Oval Invincibles, on the other hand, will take on Trent Rockets on August 17 at Trent Bridge.
