According to the emerging reports, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is all set to name a stand after Indian captain Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium. Hailed for his scintillating stroke-play, Rohit has been one of the greatest servants of Indian cricket over the years.

MCA To Name One Of The Stands On Rohit Sharma

As per the Indian Express, the MCA has received many proposals and requests to name its stands and assorted places after its former presidents and legendary cricketers.

While late Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sharad Pawar's name has been under discussion, India's T20 World Cup winning captain Rohit Sharma has also found a place among the shortlisted iconic names.

Meanwhile, the report claims that the club members apparently considered naming one of the stands after Rohit Sharma in MCA's apex council meeting.

Rohit has had a stellar stint as the Indian captain, powering them to emphatic triumphs in the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy. He is the first player to attain such elite feats as the Indian captain.

It's worth mentioning that the East Stand is in the name of former opener Sunil Gavaskar, while the MCA has named the West Stand after Vijay Merchant. Meanwhile, the names of Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar occupy the iconic North Stand, with the media gallery being named after late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

Thus, currently, the MCA has one unnamed Grand Stand just above its president's box which they might attribute to Rohit Sharma. The association has also paid its tribute to the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, by installing his life size statue inside the stadium.
