Australian opener Marcus Harris has been dropped for the final Test of the Ashes in Hobart. He will make way for the returning Usman Khawaja who scored incredible twin hundreds in the fourth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The 29-year-old left hander has had just one good innings in the series when he scored 76 runs in the first innings of the Melbourne Test. Playing in tricky conditions, Harris saw through 189 deliveries and came agonisingly close to his maiden Test hundred, a milestone he has been searching in his 14-match long Test career.
There have been questions raised over Harris' performance in this tour and the writing was on the wall the minute Khawaja got his first hundred of the fourth Test match that he might be shooed in for a permanent spot. Speaking ahead of the game, Australian captain Pat Cummins acknowledged Harris' innings in Melbourne that set a strong base for Australia to win the Test match and reassured that the opener is going to be around the national set up and is being looked as a future prospect.
Khawaja will now be sharing the opening duties with David Warner and another left hander, Travis Head will be moving down to the middle order.
Australia are 3-0 up in the five match series with one Pink Ball Test to go.
