Litton Das Misses Asia Cup Flight; Doubtful For Opening Game vs Sri Lanka

In an unfortunate turn of events, Bangladesh's ace batter Litton Das missed the flight to Sri Lanka, the venue for the Asia Cup 2023, due to sickness. Notably, Das, who recently caught a viral fever, stayed at his home while the remaining team members travelled to Sri Lanka for their opening fixture in the tournament against the home team.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's Cricket Operations Committee chairman Jalal Younus revealed that the stylish keeper-batter will join the setup later when he fully recovers from the viral infection. However, if he doesn't get well in time, the BCB will name his replacement for the marquee event.

As quoted by the Daily Star, Younus also confirmed that the 28-year-old has tested negative for Dengue.

"Litton is suffering from fever. He tested negative for Dengue. So if he recovers early, he will take the next flight to Sri Lanka. But if he does not recover, then we may have to think about a replacement," said Younus.

Das has been an integral member of the Tigers' ODI setup, amassing 2213 runs, including five hundreds, in 72 matches. He enjoyed stellar success in the 50-over format last year, garnering 577 runs at a magnificent average of 52.45. Considering his red-hot form, it could be a massive setback for Bangladesh if he doesn't recover in time.

Bangladesh will kick-start their Asia Cup 2023 campaign with a high-voltage opening clash against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on August 31.
