India’s former captain MS Dhoni has a special relationship with Tamil Nadu after playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Recently, Dhoni was spotted inaugurating a new international stadium in Madurai, which was a joyous occasion for everyone. He arrived at the stadium by private flight from Mumbai, accompanied by tight security. 

At the same event, a young fan’s gesture towards MS Dhoni stole the spotlight, and the moment went viral on social media. The respect that Dhoni gets everywhere he goes is heartwarming. When he arrived, the viewers started cheering and chanting ‘Thala’ throughout.

The video of the fan went viral on social media as he was seen touching the feet of MS Dhoni as soon as he walked towards him. People appreciated the young fan’s simplicity and sincerity towards the senior player. Moreover, Dhoni acknowledged the fan with a smile, shook hands with him, and walked towards the venue. 

This speaks volumes about MS Dhoni’s influence over cricket and fans. Despite retiring years ago, fans still love and respect him; they did back them. The former CSK captain has been a part of the team since its inception and handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad in 2024. Despite undergoing knee surgery, Dhoni’s dedication to CSK has remained a top priority. This is one of the main reasons behind the love he has gotten from the fans all these years. 

A new chapter for Madurai cricket

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), in collaboration with Velammal Education Trust, has constructed the Velammal Cricket Stadium in Madurai. The stadium has a seating capacity of 7,300 and is likely to increase to 20,000. Moreover, it is situated on an 11.5-acre site near Velammal Hospital, located on the Chinthamani Ring Road.

The stadium features multiple practice pitches, a players’ lounge, a gym, an ambulance, medical facilities, and ample car parking space. The stadium is most likely to host TNPL, IPL, and Ranji Trophy matches in the future. The fans will get access to watching their favorite players during the tournaments.
