Latest ICC ranking witnesses some rejigging, Indians shuffle upside down

Ishan Kishan is the new highest ranked Indian batter in the latest ICC T20I rankings, while KL Rahul dropped to 14th spot. 


The 23-year-old Indian opener was at 76th position in the previous T20I rankings and gained a massive jump to climb up 68 positions to grab the seventh rank among the batters, making him the only Indian batter in the top 10. 


Kishan has scored 164 runs in the first three T20Is against South Africa and is currently the highest run scorer in the ongoing five-match series. 


Meanwhile, KL Rahul has missed more than three T20I series in a row now and as a result, dropped down to the 14th position in the latest T20I rankings. Captain Rohit Sharma also went down one slot to 16th as a result of missing another three T20Is in a row with Virat Kohli dropping down to 21st position now. 


Shreyas Iyer has gone one place down to 17th rank. 


Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal made improvements in the latest ICC T20I rankings among the bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has gone up seven places to 11th rank, while Chahal going up four slots to grab 26th rank. 


Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana achieved a career-best 8th rank after the three-match T20I series against Australia. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood regained his top spot in the bowling department. He finished the recently concluded three-match series against Sri Lanka as the highest wicket-taker with six wickets.


In ICC Test match rankings, Joe Root regained his top spot among the batters. He scored two back-to-back tons to leapfrog Australia’s number three, Marnus Labuschagne to claim the Test batting throne. Former England captain now has a total of 897 rating points, five more than Marnus who slid down to 2nd spot. 


Jonny Bairstow played a match-winning knock of 136 in 92 balls, chasing 299 in the fourth innings. As a result, Bairstow has moved up 13 places to 39th position in the latest Test batting rankings, while skipper Ben Stokes went up five places to 22nd spot, after his unbeaten 75, which led England to a five wickets win in the second Test match of the ongoing three-match series against New Zealand.


England’s new number three, Ollie Pope has also moved up 22 slots to 53rd position, with opener Alex Lees climbing up to 86th. 23-year-old Matthew Potts has ascended 18 places to grab 59th rank after playing his second Test match. 


For the visitors, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has achieved his career-best 17th position in the Test batting rankings. After scoring two back-to-back tons, he also scored a 62 in the second innings of the Nottingham Test and taking him 33 places above to the 17th slot. Tom Blundell also scored his third Test century recently, which took him four places above to 31st position. 


Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retained their seventh and tenth position respectively. 


Among the bowlers, Trent Boult took five wickets in the first innings at Trent Bridge and advanced four places to ninth rank.


Jasprit Bumrah inch up a place to third, with Ravichandran Ashwin retaining his second position.
