Kevin Pietersen Feels Australia Will Be Wary of Ben Stokes' Ashes 2019 Heroics at Headingley

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has stated that the Australian team will undoubtedly have vivid memories of Ben Stokes' awe-inspiring heroics during the Ashes 2019 Test at Headingley as they prepare to take the field on the pivotal fifth day of the ongoing Lord's Test.

Stokes, created history as he played a sublime knock of 135* and skillfully guided England to a win for the ages while chasing down a massive target of 359 runs with a solitary wicket remaining.

Assessing the prevailing conditions at Lord's, Pietersen opined that the pitch is favourably inclined towards batting, and thus the Australian contingent will be determined to prevent Stokes from masterminding yet another extraordinary chase.

The former batter stressed the significance of Australia's recollection not only of the Headingley heroics but also of their own successful pursuit of a target in Birmingham in the Ashes 2023 opener. Additionally, the former England captain pointed out that the Lord's wicket holds no hidden challenges for the batsmen, particularly under the sun.

"I think Australia, as well as Ben Stokes, will be thinking (Headingley 2019) and also what happened up in Birmingham when Australia chased the target in the end. There are absolutely no demons in the wicket and we also know how beautiful it is to bat on this Lord's wicket once the sun is out,” said Pietersen on Sky Sports Cricket's Ashes Podcast.

Meanwhile, England face a formidable task on the final day of the Lord's Test, requiring 257 more runs to secure victory. Ending the penultimate day at 114/4, the hosts found themselves in a precarious situation, having been reduced to 45/4 earlier.

However, a resilient half-century from Ben Duckett, well supported by Ben Stokes (29*), allowed England to reach stumps on Day 4 without suffering any further setbacks.
