The opening ceremony for the World Cup 2023 will be called off, according to RevSportz. The star-studded affair was slated to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium on October 4, i.e., a day prior to the opening match of the tournament at the same venue.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had roped in renowned Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh, Arijit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shreyas Ghoshal, and Asha Bhosle for an extravagant evening planned in Ahmedabad. Moreover, the ceremony would have also enthralled fans with fireworks and a laser show to signal the 2023 World Cup in India.

The World Cup 2023 star-studded opening ceremony was slated to commence at 7 PM IST in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, i.e., right after the Captains’ Day event at the same venue.

While the Captain’s Day affair is still scheduled to proceed as planned, it's important to note that no official announcement has been made regarding the cancellation of the opening ceremony for the tournament.

All 10 captains, including host India skipper Rohit Sharma, will be present in Ahmedabad for the Captain’s Day.

The World Cup 2023 will kick off in Ahmedabad on October 5 with a match between New Zealand and defending champions England. Team India, meanwhile, will launch their tournament campaign three days later in Chennai with a game against five-time winners and sixth title chasers Australia.

On October 14, India and Pakistan will play at the Ahmedabad venue in one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament.
