In a significant development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named Harry Brook as the new men's ODI and T20I captain. The board made the announcement with a social media post this afternoon.
Harry Brook Replaces Jos Buttler As England Captain
Under Jos Buttler's leadership, England had a forgettable Champions Trophy campaign, suffering a group-stage exit from the tournament. The swashbuckling keeper-batter resigned from his role after the team's disastrous performance in the competition.
Now, as expected, England have replaced Buttler with young batting sensation Harry Brook as their captain in ODIs and T20Is.
After the ECB appointed him as the captain, Brook expressed his gratitude towards the board, saying,
"It’s a real honour to be named England’s white-ball captain. Ever since I was a kid playing cricket at Burley in Wharfedale, I dreamed of representing Yorkshire, playing for England, and maybe one day leading the team. I want to thank my family and coaches who’ve supported me every step of the way. Their belief in me has made all the difference and I wouldn’t be in this position without them,"
There’s so much talent in this country, and I’m looking forward to getting started, moving us forward, and working towards winning series, World Cups and major events. I’m excited to get going and give it everything I’ve got.”
Harry Brook's Career And Stats
Regarded as one of the finest batters in England, Harry Brook has showcased his mettle with some prolific performances for the national side. In 26 ODIs, he has amassed 816 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 100.7.
Meanwhile, he has played 44 T20Is, scoring 798 runs at an average of 28.5 and a blistering strike rate of 146.2. He has the age on his side and can take English cricket to new heights in his tenure.
