Josh Inglis bags full CA contract, Jhye Richardson snubbed

Australian fast-bowler Jhye Richardson has lost his place from the list of Cricket Australia's (CA) central contract, while the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis bagged a full contract for the first time. The cricketing body announced the list on Thursday. 

Richardson played both Test and T20 cricket during the summer before he was rested from the recent tour of Pakistan. Chief Selector George Bailey said that his workload management was critical following a string of injuries. 

Along with the 25-year-old, former Test skipper Tim Paine, and paceman James Pattinson, who has retired from international cricket, have missed out today. Last year all of them were named on the CA's men's contract. 

In February, Richardson, who delivered a match-winning spell in the second Ashes Test in Adelaide last December and played an essential role in the T20 series against Sri Lanka, kept struggling with injuries throughout. 

Of the seven names included on this list today who were not part of the 17-player group announced last year, six had earned upgrades during the past 12 months. Namely, Scott Boland, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Swepson. Inglis, however, is an exception. 

The Perth Scorchers' star was picked in all squads across three formats in the past six months since making his T20 debut against Sri Lanka in February. 

A maximum of 20 players can be contracted in terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA). Players who have missed out can earn a full contract by earning 12 'upgrade points' during the year, acquiring points from a Test match worth five points, an ODI two points, and a T20 one point.
