Jos Buttler will soon be seen leading England in white-ball series against New Zealand as part of their World Cup 2023 preparations.

A formidable batsman at the top of the order, the cricketer was recently asked if there are any current white-ball players whose shots he would like to employ in his repertoire of batting. Without hesitation, Buttler named two Indians, including captain Rohit Sharma as well as South Africa’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock.

Buttler picks Pant’s fearless nature to add to his range

Jos Buttler recently interacted with ESPNCricinfo for a fun QnA session. One of the questions asked to the cricketer was if there are any active limited-overs batters he like watching and would want to add one of their shots into his own batting range.

Buttler named Rohit Sharma, stating that he would like to pick the Indian skipper’s pull shot for himself. The Englishman also mentioned South African opener Quinton de Kock, and singled out his pick-up shot from the leg stumps.

The 2019 World Cup winner further named Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, albeit for his style of play. Fully aware of Pant’s fearless nature while batting at the crease regardless of the circumstances, the England captain claimed that he would not mind having such an attribute for himself. Jos Buttler said:

“Rohit Sharma's Pull shot, De Kock's pick it up off his legs & Rishabh Pant's fearless nature”

Buttler’s modesty aside, the cricketer himself possesses a range of shots in his stroke-play arsenal. The right-hander is one of the rare openers in world cricket who frequently employs ramp shot even during the earlier stages of an innings.

Jos Buttler also starred in England’s 2019 World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup wins, all while donning the leadership hat in the latter of the two tournaments.

The 32-year-old, soon to be 33, will now lead England’s title defence at the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India. He is slated to come across Rohit Sharma’s India, also tournament hosts, on October 29.

As of now, his English troops, including the likes of Sam Curran, Jonny Bairstow and ODI comeback man Ben Stokes are gearing up to face the New Zealanders for a white-ball series at home.
