Jos Buttler: List of records piled up by RR’s English recruit in IPL 2022

Rajasthan Royals’ English import Jos Buttler top-scored with 39 for his side against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022 final. Even though the Royals ended up second on the big night, Buttler took home the coveted Orange Cap for his record-breaking year with the bat.

The Lancashire cricketer finished the season with 863 runs in 17 matches for the Sanju Samson-led team at an average of 57.53. He plundered four tons and as many fifties, all while maintaining a clobbering strike rate of 149.05. As the IPL 2022 concludes, here is a look at all the records broken by the latest Orange Cap merchant:

Jos Buttler’s list of records from the breakthrough IPL season

- Jos Buttler’s 863-run tally from IPL 2022 marks the second-best batting performance by any batsman in a single IPL season. He went past David Warner’s 848 runs from 2016 during his 39-run knock in the final. Virat Kohli’s chartbusting 973-run total from 2016 remains the best seasonal performance in IPL history.

- Jos Buttler plundered four tons throughout the recently-concluded season, thus equaling Kohli (2016) in terms of most IPL centuries struck in a single edition.

- The dynamic English batter also piled up 620 runs this year exclusively against pace bowling, thus overhauling Kohli’s 609 runs against pacers from 2016 for a unique record.

- The 31-year-old cricketer faced 217 dot balls throughout the season to go past CSK’s Michael Hussey (203) from 2013 to face the most dot balls in any single edition of the tournament.

- Buttler also struck 45 sixes, thus becoming the batsman with the most sixes in IPL 2022. His six-hitting spree, coupled with the dot balls he faced, makes him the only batsman in IPL history to have most dot deliveries and most maximums in the same season.

- Remarkably, the cricketer also clubbed 83 fours throughout his breakthrough season. While he ended this year’s tournament with most boundaries, he became only the second IPL player to hit most fours and most sixes in a single season.

- Out of his 863 runs, 671 of those came while batting first during the entirety of Rajasthan Royals’ 2022 campaign to create the all-time IPL record. Previously, RCB’s then captain Virat Kohli had accounted for 668 runs while batting first in the 2016 season.

- Jos Buttler also became the first ever cricketer to score over 200 runs in the playoffs of a single IPL season. With 234 runs across three playoff matches this year, he went past former SRH captain David Warner’s tally of 190 runs from 2016.
