Rasjathan Royals and England player Jos Buttler has said that the onus of wicket-keepers becoming the captains of their respective franchise teams in the IPL is on MS Dhoni. According to Buttler, Dhoni should be given the credit for setting the trend.
"I am sure MSD (Dhoni) has something to do with the sixth sense and breeding of wicket keepers who can captain. He obviously has been a fantastic captain and there are lots of players who want to follow his footsteps," Buttler told PTI Bhasha in an exclusive interview.
Apart from CSK, Punjab Kings, RR and now Delhi Capitals have the wicket-keepers as the skippers. While KL Rahul leads the Punjab-based franchise, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have been handed over the responsibility for RR and DC respectively.
Talking about how a gloveman can be a more efficient captain, Buttler suggested that a wicket-keeper has 360 degree view of what is happening on the ground and can chip in with some good ideas.
"I think a wicketkeeper has a brilliant view of the game. That can add to your decision making as you can see first-hand how the wicket is behaving and the way bowlers are bowling," he said.
RR will begin the IPL 2021 campaign against Punjab Kings on April 12 in Mumbai.
The Rajasthan franchise have lifted the IPL trophy once in the inaugural tournament after they defeated CSK under the leadership of Shane Warne but have a drought after that. Now with the new skipper, the Royals would be looking for some positive results this year.
