England star pacer Jofra Archer struggled with a prominent elbow injury on the tour of India but it has now come out in the open that the pacer was also nursing a freakish injury in his hand. However, the injury did not impact his game and possibly, did not force him to sit out of games against India.
Talking on BBC's Tuffers and Vaughan, England’s Director revealed the details about Archer’s finger injury that occurred before the tour of India. Archer dropped his fish tank at his home in the UK and while cleaning up the mess, cut his hand. When he returned from the tour, he went to a specialist feeling a stiff finger due to a prolonged wound albeit a closed one.
"This is going to sound like an awful conspiracy and I can see what's going happen on Twitter as soon as I say this. "But, yeah, he was cleaning at home. He's got a fish tank. He dropped the fish tank, cut his hand, and he's been in surgery today,” Gile said on the Tuffers and Vaughan show.
"He's come out of it well. It was managed through India, he was treated when he arrived and it wasn't an open wound on that finger. It didn't stop him playing, but given he came home for an injection on his elbow, he went to a specialist because the finger was still a bit stiff.
Revealing gruesome details about the injury and its management, Giles said that there was a piece of glass left in Archer’s finger wound and that the pacer got to know only after coming back to India and visiting a specialist.
"They've operated and I think they found a small fragment of glass still in attendance. It obviously healed but there was part of the fish tank still in his finger. So, it was the right thing to do. We've got a clear window to do it as well. We wish him the best for his recovery but it's true, it's not a conspiracy,” Giles added.
Notably, Jofra Archer suffered from a recurrent elbow injury that ruled him out of two out of four Tests against India. He went to play the entire length of the T20I series before missing out on the entire ODI series to assess his elbow and also the freakish injury in his finger. Now, the chances of him playing in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is in serious jeopardy.
