England Test skipper Joe Root said that he would love to be part of the Indian Premier League sometime in his career. The Yorkshire player also revealed that he did not register for this year’s IPL auction.
“Definitely, at some point in my career, I would love to be part of one season of IPL and hopefully beyond that,” Root said in a virtual press conference on the eve of the second Ind-Eng Test in Chennai.
Revealing the reason behind him not registering for the IPL auction this year, the 30-year-old said that burden of international cricket was too heavy to carry if IPL was added to it this season.
“With the amount of international cricket and especially Test cricket that we have played this year, I didn’t think I could throw in all my energy into the IPL, which it deserves,” said the man who has hit three consecutive daddy hundreds (two which double hundreds) in three Tests.
“I don’t think it is going to set me up or set England cricket up best with what’s to come. So maybe next year I would be potentially a part of the IPL or at least the IPL auction,” Root added, indicating that Ashes down under is his and England’s priority after the India series.
