England skipper Joe Root hit a six off Ravichandran Aswin to score his second double century in three matches. With the double hundred, he also became the first Test cricketer in the 144-year-old history of the game to score a double hundred in his 100th Test.
As soon as he got past 184, he also became the highest run-scorer for a batsman playing his 100th Test. He broke the 16-year-old record of Inzamam-Ul-Haq, which the Pakistan batsman made against India while playing his 100th Test at Bengaluru in 2005.
Root, who eventually got out leg before wicket to a Shahbaz Nadeem delivery for 218, also became the third English cricketer after Colin Cowdrey and Alec Stewart to score a hundred in their 100th Test.
At the time of writing this new, England were 479-6 in the 156th over.
