Jasprit Bumrah Limping Off The Field [Source: @Jerseyno93/X.com]
India top fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is not looking like his usual self in the ongoing fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. Even though the pitch is offering unpredictable bounce and India posted a strong total of 358 runs in cloudy conditions, Bumrah hasn’t performed as expected. Instead, the England batters managed to play him comfortably and went on to score big runs.
Then, on Day 3, things got worse. Bumrah was caught on camera limping while climbing the stairs to the dressing room. The video quickly went viral and raised fresh concerns about his fitness. India is already in a tough position in this Test match, and now with Bumrah possibly injured, the team’s problems have grown.
What actually happened? News 18 report say that Bumrah twisted his ankle while walking up the stairs, which is why he didn’t bowl for a while during the first two sessions. Questions began to rise when he bowled only one over with the second new ball and didn’t return for another spell.
Moreover, commentators later confirmed that Bumrah had left the field for treatment. As time passed and England batters Joe Root and Ben Stokes made the most of the new ball, Bumrah’s absence became more noticeable. Cameras even showed him sitting near the boundary with a look of discomfort on his face.
India Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Downplays Injury Scare
However, India bowling coach Morne Morkel tried to calm the fears. He explained that Bumrah had only rolled his ankle and added that he just needs a bit more energy. According to Morkel, even Mohammed Siraj had a slight problem when he stepped awkwardly on the pitch, but both bowlers seem okay now.
Even though Bumrah came back to bowl later in the day, he didn’t look fully fit. He appeared to be protecting his left ankle and didn’t have his usual pace or rhythm. Still, he did manage to take the wicket of Jamie Smith. He ended Day 3 with bowling figures of 1 for 95 in 28 overs.
Interestingly, despite his struggles, Bumrah reached a big personal achievement. He now has 50 Test wickets in England, becoming just the third Asian bowler to do so, after legends Wasim Akram and Ishant Sharma. He has taken those 50 wickets in just 12 matches, with a good average of 26.38.
