A new-look Indian T20I squad-led by comeback man Jasprit Bumrah boarded the flight for Ireland to take part in a three-match series against the European nation.

The series will kick off on August 18 and culminate on August 23, with each of the three games set to be hosted by The Village in Dublin.

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to its X account to post pictures of the Ireland-bound squad.

This series is very crucial for a majority of Indian players, especially for champion pacer Bumrah, who is coming off a long layoff due to injury.

Bumrah has struggled with his recurring back injury ever since the 2022 tour of England. He did make a return to the side for the Australian T20Is just before the World Cup last winter, but the move proved to be a disastrous one as he ended up aggravating his injury.

The legendary pacer subsequently missed the T20 World Cup and the entire home season, in addition to IPL 2023 and the WTC final.

Bumrah underwent surgery on his back in New Zealand earlier this year, and since then he has been rehabilitating in the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

These three T20Is will give the management an indication of the extent of his recovery ahead of the marquee ODI tournaments like the Asia Cup and the 2023 World Cup.

Bumrah's fellow pacer, Prasidh Krishna will also be making a return to international cricket in the Ireland series following a long lay-off due to injury.

Apart from these two players, this series will be a golden opportunity for the likes of Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmad, Ruturaj Gaikwad to further their case for a spot in the first-choice XI by dishing out impressive performances.
