Ishan Kishan made perfect use of the opportunity to bat in the top order on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday, 18 July. He announced his arrival in the grandest possible way by smashing the off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva over the long-on boundary.
He batted with immense freedom along with the skipper Shikhar Dhawan and registered a berserk fifty on the debut from 33 balls. He went onto score the second-fastest half-century on his ODI debut after India's Krunal Pandya, who had taken 26 deliveries to reach the milestone.
He looked in hurry at the crease and smashed eight fours and two sixes in his half-century against an average Sri Lankan bowling attack.
Earlier in the year, he had made his debut in the T20I format against England and like the ODI debut, smashed the first ball for a boundary on the very first ball.
He would not have played if Sanju Samson was fit and had not hurt his knee. Kishan also kept wickets superbly and took his first catch in the fifty-over format.
Kishan has been a firebrand batsman in the Indian domestic circuit and the Indian Premier League before advancing his ways to the senior side on the international stage.
