Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma welcomed their second child, Akaay, on February 15. Kohli's surprise revelation sheds light on his absence from cricket, previously attributed to 'personal reasons.' Speculations hinted at a second parenthood, prompting his withdrawal from India's Test squad against England. Named initially, Kohli opted out just three days before the series opener in Hyderabad.

Reports suggest that Akaay might not automatically inherit British citizenship if born in London, as per UK regulations. British citizenship is conferred only if at least one parent is a British citizen or holds settled status after residing there for a considerable period. While the couple has not confirmed the birthplace, rumors point to London, leaving fans curious about their son's nationality.

The question arises whether Akaay will be an Indian citizen like his parents or potentially hold British citizenship due to his birth location. With the celebrity duo maintaining privacy regarding their personal affairs, the citizenship status of their newborn son remains an intriguing subject.

Can Akaay acquire British citizenship?

Despite Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma's residence in London, their son Akaay cannot attain British citizenship solely through birth in the UK. Though his passport may be issued there, he remains an Indian citizen. However, his parents have the option to apply for his registration as a British citizen. Akaay could qualify for British citizenship if he stays in the UK until at least age 10, given he was born there.
