On Saturday, February 1, BCCI held its annual cricketing award, 'Naman', which felicitates and celebrates the successful cricketer of the year. In the ongoing event, several budding cricketers, women cricketers, and star-capped players marked their presence.
The likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues were part of the elite ceremony. However, Virat Kohli was nowhere to be seen, and it left the fans curious as to why Virat did not mark his presence to these prestigious awards?
Why Was Virat Kohli absent from BCCI's Naman Awards?
It is worth noting that while the awards are being telecasted by Star Sports from 7:00 pm on February 1, it was held a bit earlier. While it is unclear whether the ceremony took place on January 31, Virat couldn't make it because of his Ranji Trophy commitments.
It is worth noting that the right-hand batter featured for Delhi in their last league stage match in the Ranji Trophy. The fans turned up in thousands to watch their idol play. The match started on January 30 and concluded on February 1 where Delhi won by an innings.
It is worth noting that other than Kohli, even KL Rahul was not present for the awards as he too was playing for Karnataka against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Further, it is worth noting that Virat had also missed 2024 ceremony because he pulled out of the two Tests against England and couldn't make it to the Naman awards ceremony.
