IPL Veteran To Lead ODI Squad On Bangladesh Tour

Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson has been handed over the captain's responsibilities for the upcoming ODI series in Bangladesh. He will be leading the side in three ODI matches to be held in Dhaka prior to the World Cup. In the absence of Tom Latham, the stand-in skipper for New Zealand, Ferguson will have to opportunity to show his captaincy skills. 

Recently in the T20 warm-up match against Worcestershire, Lockie's impressive captaincy caught the eyes of head coach Gary Stead. 

Gary stated it's a golden opportunity for someone like Lockie. And he expects him to do well for the side. Adding to that, Gary believes due to the packed schedule till April, it's important for them to manage the workload and keep the players ready for the right times. 

Thus, the Blackcaps have decided to give rest senior cricketers like Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee to spend some time at home before they fly to India for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Among this update, the good news for NZ fans is about Trent Boult's return to the side. He'll be sharing the bowling with Kyle Jamieson and Adam Milne. Besides them, NZ will be carrying Ish Sodhi, Reaching Ravindra and Cole McConhie as spin bowling options. 

With the exclusion of so many senior batters, it opened the gates for Dean Foxcroft, who recently made his T20I debut against UAE last month. The head coach is impressed with Dean's performance for Otago Volts. Though it will be hard to acclimatise to the conditions in Bangladesh, it will serve as a great opportunity for the youngsters to explore the national setup.
