The IPL 2021 mini auctions take place on Thursday. Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris were snapped for some huge amounts of money. Maxwell was earlier released by the KXIP now re-named as Punjab kings while Morris was a part of the RCB franchise.
Glenn Maxwell
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was sold to RCB for whooping amount of Rs 14.25 Cr. Interestingly, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag and ex-New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris had taken a jibe at Maxwell earlier.
"Glenn Maxwell. This 10 crore cheerleader proved very costly for Punjab. His IPL routine for the last few years has been of shirking from work but this season he broke that record as well. This is what you call a highly paid vacation," said Sehwag on Maxwell's dreadful season.
“If anybody pays anything close to that sort of 10-crore mark, they have got rocks in their head. It is that simple. We all know how good a player he is, and that is not the question. The talent is there, but the talent has outweighed the actual performances we have seen from Glenn Maxwell,” stated Styris.
Moeen Ali
The England all-rounder Moeen Ali was sold to CSK for Rs 7 Cr. The right-arm offie went under a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings before eventually getting picked by the Chennai franchise.
Chris Morris
The South African fast bowling all-rounder Chris Morris was sold to RR for Rs. 16.25 Cr. Morris became the costliest player in the history of the IPL. He was earlier released by the RCB. The right-handed all-rounder too went under a bidding war between MI, Punjab, RCB and Rajasthan Royals. Morris surpassed Yuvraj Singh's record of being the costliest player. The former Indian all-rounder was bought by Delhi Daredevils in the year 2015.
Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson who had a base price of Rs 1.5 Cr was sold to Punjab Kings for Rs 14 Cr. The RCB and Punjab were up for the bids but the fast bowler eventually went to Punjab Kings.
K Gowtham
Krishnappa Gowtham who had a base price of Rs 20 lakh was sold to CSK for Rs. 9.25 Cr. The Sunrisers Hyderabad did come into the bidding but the spin all-rounder was sold to the Chennai franchise. Gowtham is now the costliest uncapped Indian player in the history of IPL.
Riley Meredith
Fast bowler Riley Meredith rode on his performance in the recently concluded BBL season to get picked by Punjab Kings for Rs. 8 Cr. He had a base price of Rs. 40 lakh. Meredith scalped a total of 15 wickets in 12 innings and gave runs at an economy of just 7.10.
Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson was expected to go big in this IPL. He was sold to RCB for Rs 15 Cr after having a base price of Rs 75 lakh. In the last three T20s that he has played at the domestic front, Kyle has picked up four wickets and has been handy with the bat too.
