In a massive update coming from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is set to be hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with a provisional date set for May 26.

Insider sources have also disclosed that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is slated to be the venue for one Qualifier and the Eliminator match, with Chennai set to host the other Qualifier.

Adhering to a longstanding tradition, the IPL Governing Council has elected to stage both the inaugural match and the IPL 2024 final at the stadium of the previous year's champions, marking a continuation of this practice.

In this instance, Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, will have the honour of hosting these significant fixtures in their home city, as per statements from a high-ranking official within the BCCI to PTI.

"The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year's defending champions -- in this case Chennai Super Kings," a BCCI official told PTI.




The BCCI is in the final stages of formalizing the IPL schedule for the remainder of the season, taking into consideration the dates of the general election to ensure no conflicts arise. 

The official schedule is expected to be released shortly, providing fans and participants with a complete overview of the tournament's timeline and venues.

Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that this year's tournament holds particular sentimental value for fans of the Chennai Super Kings and the wider cricket community, as it is widely speculated that MS Dhoni, affectionately known as 'Thala' among his supporters, will be appearing in his final IPL season.

The decision to hold knockout rounds in Chennai is anticipated to be a special homage to Dhoni, stirring excitement and anticipation among fans. 

Supporters of CSK will especially be hopeful that their team secures a spot in the final, aiming for a victory on their home ground as a tribute to Dhoni's illustrious career.
