IPL 2022 | Warner praises Mitchell Marsh for positive batting against Rajasthan

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) batter David Warner applauded Mitchell Marsh after the latter played a match-winning knock and became the Player of the Match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. 

Marsh came to bat after left-arm speedster Trent Boult removed KS Bharat on a duck in the run-chase. From there on, Marsh also added a partnership of 144 runs with David Warner for the second wicket.

The right-handed Australia batter went on to score 89 runs off 62 balls with five fours and seven sixes before Yuzvendra Chahal removed him as well. However, his dismissal didn’t affect their chase as they won the game convincingly.

After the game, Warner praised Mitchell Marsh for staying positive throughout their innings and playing a stunning knock as well.

“Feels good to get across the line. How good was Mitch there! Came out there and started positive. We just told him that if he can get an 80 or 90, he can win games for us,” Warner was quoted as saying after the match.

On the other hand, Marsh also said that it was a tough game for him physically but added that his tactics with the ball and bat were very clear too.

"It was a tough game physically when you have to bat and bowl. Cutters into the wicket were hard to score of but we knew one good partnership was enough," Marsh told after the game. 

"The first 4-5 overs was as hard as I have played in T20s. There was swing, seam, and bounce and it reminded me of the Perth stadium.”

With the win, Delhi Capitals has stayed at fifth in the points table with a net run rate of +0.210. Warner, however, reckoned that winning with 11 balls in hand was important for them since NRR is most likely to play a key role in qualification scenarios for the playoffs.

The Capitals will next play against Punjab Kings on Monday, May 16 at the same venue.
