Former Indian opener-turned pundit Virender Sehwag drew flak from cricket fans on Wednesday (April 6) night after using the 'Vaada Pav' reference in the wake of yet another defeat for the Mumbai Indians, this time at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Australian Test captain Pat Cummins proved to be the nemesis-in-chief for the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night as the right-handed batter smashed a breathtaking 14-ball half-century - the joint-fastest in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Following an epic assault from Cummins that left Mumbai gasping for breath, Sehwag took to his Twitter account to congratulate Cummins, stating that it was one of the most 'insane displays of batting' he has ever seen.
However, that's not all. Sehwag suggested in this tweet that Cummins snatched 'vada pav' from Mumbai's mouth. For the uninitiated, 'Vada pav' is a slandered name used by Rohit Sharma's trollers to reference his fitness.
He wrote, "Moonh se nivala cheen liya, sorry vada pav cheen liya. Pat Cummins, one of the most insane display of clean hitting, 15 ball 56 … Jeera Batti #MIvKKR"
After Sehwag posted the tweet, many fans lambasted the India former opener as they thought that he was taking a dig at Rohit.
Following the outrage, Sehwag posted another tweet on Thursday morning, where he clarified that he used the 'Vada Pav' jibe for Mumbai and not Rohit. However, he also added that he is a big fan of Rohit than any.
"The Vada Pav reference is for Mumbai, a city which thrives on Vada Pav. Rohit fans thanda lo, I am a bigger fan of his batting much more than most of you guys," the 43-year old clarified.
Meanwhile, Sharma endured another poor outing against the Knights as he managed a painstaking 12-ball three.
With Mumbai having lost three games on the bounce, it is desperate times for Rohit and co, and the five-time champions will hope that their talismanic skipper will regain his form in the upcoming fixtures.
