IPL 2022 | Twitterati drop tributes after 'Captain' Dhoni era concludes

The date 24.03.2022 entered into the list of heartbreaks for cricket fans as one of the greatest servants of the game, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, shockingly handed over the reins of captaincy to Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) teammate Ravindra Jadeja.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 opener, CSK released a statement announcing that Jadeja has been handed over the leadership baton after Dhoni relinquished the position. Reportedly, the move was intended to develop the next CSK regime as 'Thala' may finally call it quits from all game forms after the upcoming IPL season.

There were already speculations of the same, but the announcement came like a bullet just two days before CSK's opening clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Notably, the franchise had earlier declared Jadeja as their first retention, bagging his services for INR 16 crore.

Meanwhile, the cricketing fraternity poured in their tributes for Dhoni, as one of India's most celebrated sons gave up on his extraordinary mastery.

Here's how Twitter reacted:

After leading the Chennai-based franchise in 12 IPL seasons, Dhoni filled his cabinet with four titles. He captained CSK in 204 matches and ended his stint with 121 wins along with 82 defeats, maintaining a healthy win percentage of 59.60.

CSK will go head-to-head with KKR in the tournament opener on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
