Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Kane Williamson has been fined Rs 12 Lakh after his side maintained a slow over-rate against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the fifth game of IPL 2022 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Hyderabad lost to the Royals by 61 runs in a one-sided game played at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Earlier, Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma was penalized the same amount for maintaining a slow over-rate during their opening game of IPL 2022 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on March 27. Rohit's side, however, lost to DC by four wickets.
"The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2022 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on March 29," the IPL council stated in the media release.
"As it was the team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offence. Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the statement read further.
Coming to the game, after winning the toss, RR opener Jos Buttler (35), skipper Sanju Samson (55 from 27 balls), and Devdutt Padikkal (41 from 29 deliveries) took their team to a colossal total of 210 for the loss of six wickets. At the same time, Shimron Hetmyer scored a quickfire 32 from 13 balls, taking RR to a strong finish.
Prasidh Krishna, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal managed to break the back of SRH's top order in the bowling department. As a result, in the points table, the Royals are on top with a couple of points, followed by the DCs.
Now, the Sunrisers face Lucknow Super Giants on April 4 at the DY Patil Sports Academy. Both the teams lost their opening encounters in the IPL 2022.
