IPL 2022 | Rahul Tewatia reveals his thought-process during final over against PBKS

Gujarat Titans spin-bowling all-rounder Rahul Tewatia pulled off yet another sensational heist at the expense of the Punjab Kings on Friday night.

The left-handed batsman smashed a couple of sixes on the last two deliveries bowled by Odean Smith to claim a thrilling win for his team.

The heat was on when Tewatia came out to bat. Needing 19 off the last ball, Gujarat had just lost their skipper Hardik Pandya via a needless run-out. He wouldn't have been on strike on the last two deliveries if Odean Smith had not tried to run him out at the non-striker end on the 4th delivery.

Smith proved to be a fatal mistake as Tewatia smoked him for two monstrous sixes to script yet another heist against a West Indian pacer representing PBKS.

Speaking to the host broadcaster after the match, Tewatia described it as an 'amazing feeling' while also revealing the game-plan that he and David Miller had discussed. The plan was simple: Just try and hit sixes.

"Amazing feeling. There was nothing to think about! Just go there and hit sixes; that's what David and I were thinking," said Rahul Tewatia.

Tewatia further added that since Smith had previously dished out a wide delivery outside the off-stump, he decided to come inside the line of the ball and mow it over wide long-on, and that's precisely what he did.

"I planned against Smith. The last ball was off the middle of the bat, and I knew it was six. The first ball he bowled was wide outside off, so I thought the last ball would come there too," explained Tewatia.

Tewatia's exploits have propelled the Gujarat Titans to their third consecutive win on the bounce. The southpaw has already finished off a couple of games for his side, and the Pandya-led unit will hope that he continues his form in the upcoming games.
