  • Ipl 2022 Purple Patels Trail From An Additional Pacer To Rcbs Second Highest Wicket Taker

IPL 2022 | Purple Patel's trail from an additional pacer to RCB’s second-highest wicket-taker

Royal Challengers Bangalore have seen a massive turnaround since the end of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Virat Kolhi-led unit finished the season as the bottom-dwellers in IPL 12; however, they have been consistently finishing in top-four since then.

This year too, with different leadership, RCB are doing good work as they have won five matches off seven played. The reason for the franchise’s skyrocketing growth, you ask?

A) Brilliant leadership.

B) Refreshing intakes from backroom staff.

C) Lastly, the revamp of the bowling department.

The Bold Army, as they call themselves, has always been a star-studded line-up but without the likes of any potent fast-bowler. Yuzvendra Chahal was their go-to bowler, but the leg-spinner didn’t had anyone else to rely on from the other end.

However, the 2020 edition saw Mohammad Siraj transform into ‘the Mohammad Siraj’, before RCB booked Harshal Patel through their ranks in 2021.

Harshal, who bagged the Purple Cap in IPL 14, has been associated with the Challengers since 2012 (before having a three-year breakup in 2018-20); but as wine gets more refined with age, Purple Patel has gotten better with age (experience, to be precise).

Over the years, the 31-year old pacer has added various outfoxing weapons in his arsenal, resulting in him taking 32 wickets in the last edition. In the previous game against Lucknow Super Giants, Harshal added another feather in his hat.

On Tuesday (April 19), the Haryana seamer surpassed former Indian pacer R Vinay Kumar as his franchise’s second-highest wicket-taker. RCB’s death-over specialist reached this milestone by dismissing KL Rahul, the skipper of the Lucknow, who was caught behind the wickets by Dinesh Karthik.

Chahal is the only bowler to take more wickets than Harshal Patel for RCB. But, before the start of this season, the management backed the pacer over the wily tweaker by buying Harshal for a whopping INR 10.75 crores and leaving the paddle low when Chahal’s bid was going.

Leaving the leg-spinner had raised countless eyebrows as various pundits, and former cricketers have mocked the Bangalore-based franchise for that move, but fortunately, regaining the services of Harshal is doing wonders for them.

Top 10 Highest wicket-taker for RCB in IPL

IPL 2022 | DC vs PBKS | Delhi Capitulates Punjab Kings

After a series of exciting affairs, the 32nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 produced a one-sided contest as Punjab Kings (PBKS) suffered decimation at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC), where the latter earned an easy nine-wicket win at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on Wednesday. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw straightaway went for the attack in the chase of 116 runs as the Covid-hit Capitals aimed to give their Net Run-Rate (NRR) a major boost. Both the openers made their intentions clear in Vaibhav Arora's second over, accumulating a total of 17 overs, smashing a flurry of boundaries. However, there was no respite for the PBKS bowlers as they had to suffer through all-out aggression from the DC opening pair. Rahul Chahar eventually broke the 83-run stand as Shaw mistimed a slog sweep and departed for 41 runs. While there was not much left to do, Warner was in a hurry and ended the match in partnership with Sarfaraz Khan. The Aussie brought up his third consecutive half-century and finished unbeaten at the score of 60 as DC chased the target in 10.3 overs. Earlier, after being sent to bat, the Kings had no answers to tough questions raised by Delhi's pacers. Skipper Mayank Agarwal returned after a one-game break; he could not add much to the stuttering batting lineup as an inside-edge on Mustafizur Rahman's delivery rattled the stumps and ended his evening. Shikhar Dhawan had an unfortunate dismissal, playing down the leg-side for a boundary but was caught by Rishabh Pant. PBKS again looked upon Liam Livingstone to steer them through as he has done in the tournament. Moreover, the Englishman put on his dancing shoes and walked down the track, only to see himself getting stumped by Axar Patel's delivery. Jonny Bairstow's horrid season with the bat continued as he smashed one straight to Mustafizur's throat, who was stationed at the fine-leg. Jitesh Sharma helped Punjab's cause a bit and started to show signs of aggression. However, the Vidarbha wicketkeeper-batsman failed to convert his start and perished after scoring 32 runs. Shahrukh Khan's innings was full of mistimed strokes as he looked like a pale version of himself. His dismissal meant it was all over for PBKS as only tailenders were left to bat the remaining overs. Arsheep Singh and Rahul Chahar managed to hit a few boundaries, but their attempt could only aid Punjab in achieving a trifling 115-run total. With this encounter, DC and PBKS swapped positions at the points table, with 6 points to their name. Next, the Capitals meet Rajasthan Royals on Friday while the wounded Kings take on the Chennai Super Kings on Monday. Brief scores: Punjab Kings - 115/10 (20) Jitesh Sharma 32(23), Mayank Agarwal 24(15); Axar Patel 10/2 (4), Lalit Yadav 11/2 (2) Delhi Capitals - 119/1 David Warner 60(30), Prithvi Shaw 41(20); Rahul Chahar 21/1 (2.3) Delhi Capitals won by nine wickets

Rotterdam to host bilateral series between Pakistan and Netherlands

The VOC Cricket Ground at Rotterdam will host the bilateral ODI series between Pakistan and Netherlands, the PCB Director confirmed on Wednesday. The series will start on 16th August and will culminate on 21st August. Zakir Khan, the PCB Director – International, announced the tour and mentioned the importance of the bilateral series between the two nations. “We are pleased that with the support of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB), we have been able to reschedule the series, which is important to the growth and development of cricket in the Netherlands as well as to the two teams’ chances of progressing directly to the 2023 World Cup,” said Zakir. “Our men’s national cricket team had an excellent 2021-22 season, and I am confident they will build on the momentum to entertain ex-pat Pakistanis and the Dutch spectators with good cricket. This series will also help KNCB attract new and young audiences towards the game,” Zakir added. Both sides were up against each other in the 1996 and 2003 World Cup and the Champions Trophy 2002. In all these encounters, Pakistan secured victory. This series was scheduled to be played in July 2020, but the COVID outbreak in the entire world caused it to be postponed. Currently, the Netherlands have secured two wins out of ten appearances and are positioned 13th in the ODI World Cup Super League points table. In their last ODI series, the Netherlands lost to New Zealand 0-3. On the other hand, Pakistan has won on six occasions in 12 appearances and is in the ninth position on the table. They were up against Australia on their home soil and secured the victory by 2-1, which was crucial for making a strong case for the 2023 World Cup. This series will undoubtedly play a key role in determining the top seven teams and hosts India, to feature in the World Cup 2023. It can turn out to be a crucial series, particularly for the Pakistan team, who have not been able to secure a trophy since 1992. Series schedule: 16th August – 1st ODI; VOC Cricket Ground, Rotterdam 18th August – 2nd ODI; VOC Cricket Ground, Rotterdam 21st August – 3rd ODI; VOC Cricket Ground, Rotterdam
