IPL 2022 | Mitchell Marsh tests positive for Covid-19, DC quarantined

The Delhi Capitals have been off their color since the start of the Indian Premier League this season, with the team standing at the eighth position on the points table, with just two wins to their name.

The team was looking to make their comeback against the Punjab Kings this Wednesday in their sixth game of the season. However, the team has been rattled by another Covid case in their camp as Australian all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh testing positive for the virus, forcing the entire squad to quarantine.

On Friday, the Delhi Capitals physiotherapist tested positive for COVID-19 and the team masseur. As a result, the two were immediately separated from the rest of the team.

Following this incident, the team was advised to follow social distancing from the other teams, masks were made mandatory, and no handshakes or hugs were allowed during the Royal Challengers Bangalore match on Saturday to prevent further transmission of the virus.

Marsh tested positive in a rapid-antigen test on Monday morning. He previously complained of headaches and light fever. The player will undergo another RT-PCR test.

As another precautionary measure, the players have been put under quarantine, and door to door COVID-19 tests have been scheduled for two consecutive days to trace and contain any possible transmission.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Board of Cricket Control in India has prompted the Delhi Capitals to cancel its upcoming travel schedule. On Wednesday evening, the Delhi capitals were scheduled to travel to Pune to meet Punjab Kings at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

The Wednesday evening fixture will be held or cancelled depending upon the COVID-19 test results of the players, and the decision rests with the BCCI.
