IPL 2022 | Kumar Sangakkara praises McCoy's commitment despite an ill mother at home

Rajasthan Royals' Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara was full of praise for Obed McCoy. The former Sri Lankan batter revealed that McCoy's mother was ill for a few days, and despite that, the bowler had his entire focus on the game and even performed at his best.

McCoy bowled a fantastic spell of 3/23 in his 4 overs. It was him, along with Prasidh Krishna, who applied breaks to Bangalore's innings and restricted them to a total of 157 runs in the Eliminator of this edition.

Giving an update on his performance and his mother, Sangakkara spoke to the broadcasters and said, "Obed McCoy, his mother, has been quite ill back home, but he has been able to put that aside. She is recovering well."

McCoy took the crucial wickets of Faf du Plessis, Mahipal Lomror, and Harshal Patel. He even took a diving catch of Glenn Maxwell to put his team into the driving seat. His efforts, along with the magnificent innings of Jos Buttler, helped them to advance to the finals after a gap of 14 years.

Sangakkara was further seen expressing his joy for his team's overall performance against RCB and also praised Buttler for his masterclass batting.

He said, "Jos Buttler backs his strengths and manoeuvres the bowling to bowl more and more to his strengths. The great thing is he can accelerate at any time. Overall, he is a wonderful guy who thinks deeply about his game and himself."
