IPL 2022 | Kohli fumes over controversial leg before decision against MI

Virat Kohli was yet again on the receiving end of the dubious decision as the king had to take the long walk to the dugout after being dismissed on the score of 48 at the hands of Dewald Brevis who bowled his maiden delivery in the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

However, the wicket is surrounded by controversy as Kohli found himself in front of the stumps with both the bat and bat making contact with the ball at the same time, while the umpire raised his finger on the appeal, Kohli wasted no time in opting for the review. While it was clear that the ball made contact with the bat, the third umpire found no conclusive evidence to reverse the decision. 

Kohli’s frustration with the decision was evident on his face as he smashed his bat on the ground while making his way back to the pavilion. Glenn Maxwell finished the game off for his franchise with two back to back boundaries. However, the Royal Challengers Bangalore took the matter into their own hands as they posted a tweet via their account referencing MCC laws on the decision.

The tweet has sparked a heavy debate on the micro blogging site with fans slamming the umpires for their faulty decisions. Virat Kohli faced a similar fate versus New Zealand as the batter found himself in front of the stumps against Azaz Patel in the second test match of the series with his bat and pad making contact with the ball simultaneously. 

The result however did not have any impact on the contest as the Royal Challengers cruised to the total courtesy of Anuj Rawat’s 66 runs off 47 deliveries. The franchise has won three out of its four contests so far this season, climbing to the third spot in the league standings.
