IPL 2022 | 'It's not something I am going through for the first time'- Rohit Sharma on his lean patch

Mumbai Indians had one of their worst seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The team concluded the tournament at the last spot with just four victories from 14 league matches. The poor batting display can be considered as one of the major reasons behind MI's horrendous run in IPL 2022.

Many of the big MI players weren't amongst the runs, and thus the team failed to give a tough fight. Rohit Sharma is one such player to deliver a disappointing performance with the bat. In 14 league matches, the skipper scored only 268 runs at a dismal average of 19.14 and strike rate of 120.17

Also, since the inception of the IPL, this is the first time that the opening batter failed to hit even one half-century. However, Rohit Sharma isn't much concerned about his form. The batter has backed himself to get over the lean patch and score some good runs for India in the coming months.

"A lot of things that I wanted to do didn't happen. But this has happened with me earlier, so it's not something I am going through for the first time. I know cricket doesn't end here; there is a lot of cricket ahead.

So I need to take care of the mental aspect and think about how I can return to form and perform. So it's only a minor adjustment, and I will try to work on that whenever there is some time off," Rohit Sharma said during the post-match presentation.

The current Indian skipper further elaborated on what went wrong for the franchise in the 2022 edition. Rohit believes that winning and losing are part and parcel of the game, especially in big tournaments like the Indian Premier League.

Mumbai Indians lost their first eight games, to name an unwanted record. However, the franchise gained some momentum towards the end as they won four of their last six league games. Rohit Sharma and his troops also successfully ended the league on a promising note by defeating Delhi Capitals by five wickets.

"It was a bit disappointing season for us as we couldn't execute our plans at the start of the tournament. And we know that in tournaments like the IPL, you have to build that momentum.

Initially, when we kept losing games one after another, that was a difficult time. For us, what was important was to make sure that whatever we had planned, we came out and tried those things. Unfortunately, it didn't happen exactly the way we wanted it to.

But it sometimes happens when you have a new team as some players take some time to understand their roles. Certain guys were playing for the first time for this franchise. And they play different roles when they play for their country, for their state, or in different leagues. And when they come here, they get different roles. So it takes a little time to get adjusted," the Indian skipper concluded.
