IPL 2022 | I used to put chest guard while facing him in nets - Glenn Phillips on Malik

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Umran Malik wreaks havoc on the opposition batters. His teammate Glenn Phillips also admitted to suffering the speedster’s wrath in the net sessions.

Umran has turned out to be an excellent asset for the Sunrisers and is only getting better with every match. The 22-year-old Jammu lad’s outstanding fast-bowling spell in today’s day game against the Punjab Kings saw him claiming four wickets for just 28 runs.

The right-arm pacer does not even spare his teammates in the nets as Phillips, an SRH player, revealed that he wears chest guards while facing Umran during the practice sessions.

“Umran Malik is so quick; I used to put Chest Guards while facing him in nets,” Phillips said as quoted by India Today.

After rattling the dangerous-looking Jitesh Sharma, Umran bowled a three-wicket maiden and restricted Punjab to mere 151 runs.

While the heat in Mumbai is touching the heights, Umran said that it does not affect his speed as he has lived through the same in his home city.

“Needs some time (to realise what he’s done). In Jammu, it usually gets to 47 or 48 degrees, so it doesn’t matter (the heat); it’s actually nice to play in this heat.

“I think I have got my line and length better over the last few days. After the first innings, the plan was to keep it full and straight, and in that channel just outside off,” Umran said.
