IPL 2022 | Hetmyer leaves RR camp owing to the birth of his child

Shimron Hetmyer has left the Rajasthan Royals camp and returned to his home in Guyana on Sunday morning, owing to the birth of his first child. In a video posted by the Rajasthan Royals Twitter handle, Hetmyer was being hugged and congratulated by his teammates Jimmy Neesham, Rassie Van der Dussen, Yuzvendra Chahal and Daryl Mitchell. All his teammates wished him for attaining fatherhood and asked him to go live during his child's birth.

However, the dynamic southpaw has clarified in the video that he will return to the tournament by stating that all his stuff is still left in his hotel room.

"My stuff is still left in the room. It's only because of a special emergency that I am leaving. Don't miss me too much. See you soon", Hetmyer said in that video.

Hetmyer's outstanding performance with the bat has been one of the key reasons for RR's success in IPL 2022. With 291 runs at a stunning average of 58.20 and a glorious strike rate of 166.29, Hetmyer has played the role of a finisher to perfection.

RR will probably bring Rassie Van der Dussen back into the playing XI in his absence. However, if they wish to replace Hetmyer with a left-handed batter, they have an able option in James Neesham, who will also give them a decent sixth bowling option.

With seven victories from eleven games, the Royals are placed at the third position in the points table and are set to lock horns with Delhi Capitals as their next assignment in Mumbai on Wednesday (11 May).
