IPL 2022 | 'He’s putting his hand up and bashing the door down as hard as he can'- Steyn on Tripathi

Former South African pacer and Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach Dale Steyn can't believe Rahul Tripathi hasn't yet represented the national team.

Tripathi has been one of the most impactful uncapped Indian batters over the course of the last few seasons.

What sets him apart from the rest is that he can bat at any position and can launch from the word go with no weakness against both pace and spin.

He has been in amazing form thus far this season. Having been given the No.3 spot permanently, Tripathi has made a serious impact, with his 228 runs at an average of 45 and a strike rate of 170+.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Steyn reckoned that Tripathi has a serious chance of making it to the Indian T20I set-up. However, he also expressed his bewilderment at the fact that the right-handed batter is yet to represent the country.

"I certainly believe that Rahul has a serious chance of making it to India's T20I team. The IPL is a platform that allows players to perform so well that the Indian national team selects players from that pool. It's strange to see that he hasn't got an opportunity in the Indian team so far," Steyn said.

With the No.3 spot under Virat Kohli's possession, Steyn conceded that it would be tough for Tripathi to claim a place in the Indian side. Still, the former pacer believes that the Maharashtra batter is bashing the door down with his impressive performances.

"Given that the position he bats at [no. 3] is occupied by Virat Kohli in the Indian team; it's going to be difficult to get that spot. But the way he's currently playing and the way he has played in the past has certainly shown maturity. He's putting his hand up and bashing the door down as hard as he can," he added.

In his latest outing, Rahul had a night to forget against CSK as he registered a golden duck. He will look to make amends for it when SRH locks horns with the Delhi Capitals on May 05.
