Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma's worry did not end with the defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) as he was slapped with an INR 12 Lakh fine for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second innings of the match.
Rohit was hit by the penalty as Mumbai failed to complete their quota of overs within a specified period of time.
"The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27," the IPL informed in a media release.
"As it was the team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the statement added.
It wasn't a good day for Rohit on the field either, as his side suffered a harrowing defeat by four wickets in their opening clash against the Capitals.
Rohit along with Ishan Kishan gave MI a rocketing start, but the former got dismissed, trying to take on the chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav. The 34-year-old batter scored 41 runs off just 32 deliveries before the Chinaman got the better of him.
Meanwhile, later in the day, Delhi’s batters - especially Prithvi Shaw, Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel - snatched grim from Paltan’s faces as they chased 178 runs within 18.2 overs.
The five-time champions will next lock horns against Rajasthan Royals on April 2 at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.
