IPL 2022 | Cummins joins KKR Camp for IPL 2022, likely to feature vs Mumbai Indians on April 6

Good News for KKR fans! Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders after completing his mandatory quarantine. He will be available to play for the franchise from April 6 onwards.

However, Cricket Australia's No Objection (NOC) Certificate restricts him to play before April 6 as the management locked its players until April 5 due to Australia's ongoing tour of Pakistan.

Test skipper Pat Cummins, who captained Australia to a historic win in the Test series against Pakistan, returned home and caught up with his family before departing for India for a cash-rich tournament. However, few senior players in the squad made themselves unavailable for the white ball series vs Pakistan.

Notably, Australian player Cummins was the most expensive player at the IPL 2020 Mega Auction. IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for a whopping Rs 15.50 crore.  Kolkata retained him for the same amount in 2021 as well.  He scored 229 runs and scalped 21 wickets for KKR across the two seasons.

Despite his decent performances in IPL 2020 and 2021, KKR did not retain him ahead of the fifteenth edition of IPL but bought him back for INR 7.25 crore. However, Kolkata Knight Riders have played two games in IPL 2022 so far, registering a win vs CSK and a loss vs RCB.

Hence, KKR will play against the Mumbai Indians on April 6 in Pune. It will be quite more interesting to see if Pat Cummins has a role to play in that match.

KKR Squad:

IPL 2022: 'Suryakumar Yadav Is Fit To Play The Next Game' - Zaheer Khan confirms availability vs RR

While addressing the pre-match press conference, Zaheer Khan, director of Mumbai Indians (MI), has said that their ace batter Suryakumar Yadav is fit and available for their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the DY Patil Stadium, scheduled to be played on Saturday. Suryakumar missed the first game for Mumbai against Delhi Capitals due to an injury he suffered in the third and final T20I against West Indies, back in February. Yadav was recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before joining Mumbai Indians for the 15th edition of the cash-rich league. He joined the team a few days ago and underwent training sessions with the team. "Surya will be available for the next game. He has been practising well, and we are eagerly waiting for him to play," Zaheer Khan said in the pre-match conference. The 31-year-old is expected to replace Anmolpreet Singh and bat at number three for Mumbai. His inclusion in the team will provide stability to their middle order as Tilak Varma and Anmolpreet Singh failed to carry on the momentum given by the opener against Delhi Capitals (DC). Meanwhile, Zak also confirmed the availability of wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan in their second game against Rajasthan after sustaining a hit on his toe while batting against a Shardul Thakur yorker. "Ishan is absolutely fine. He has been practising regularly. He's fully fit and available," Zak said ahead of MI's game against RR. The five-time champions started their IPL campaign with a loss, but Zaheer Khan said that his team has got some learning from DC's game, ahead of their second match. "We have had constructive chats about the options we can take. The first game is always and we usually have been slow starters." "The DC game was good learning for us. Of course, the Brabourne wicket is not easy for the bowlers. But, in terms of planning and prep, we are right on the money," he concluded.

IPL 2022 | 'It's pretty hard fielding second at the moment,' says Stephen Fleming after CSK's second consecutive defeat

On Thursday, when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) put up a mammoth total of 210 after being invited by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to bat first, very few people thought that the defending champions would end up on the losing side in the end. But contrary to their beliefs, the Super Giants stunned CSK by chasing the target with three balls to spare, courtesy of a breath-taking half-century from Evin Lewis and a perfectly timed cameo from Ayush Badoni. Chasing a target of 211, requires an exhibition of extraordinary hitting skills, which were certainly demonstrated by the Lucknow batters. But apart from that, the dew factor also aided some favour to LSG by making it incredibly tough for the CSK bowlers to control the wet ball in the second half. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming opined the same thing post-defeat last night. Although he praised CSK's batting unit for getting 210, Fleming admitted being aware of the fact that even a target of 211 would prove to be unsafe in the wet conditions. According to the ex-Kiwi skipper, the ball skidding off the surface made it difficult for the men-in-yellow to stay competitive in the game, despite the CSK bowlers trying their best for the same. "We did well to get to a score above 200. But we were always realistic. It was going to get harder as the night went on. So, we worked very hard to stay in the game. But, that said, it's pretty hard fielding second at the moment", Fleming said in the post-match press conference. "At no stage did we feel comfortable and that showed in our fielding. In addition, the conditions were wet. So, the guys hung in there defensively, proud of the effort", he further added. Fleming said that the presence of dew took CSK's spinners out of the game as it was getting impossible to grip the wet ball and bowl in good channels. He also revealed that the decision to go with Shivam Dube to bowl the penultimate over was taken in the middle and appreciated the LSG batters for the way they dealt with the medium pacer. "If you looked earlier on, spinning options were taken out of play. It was very hard for one: to grip the ball for a spinner and two: to be effective", Fleming said. "Also, we were hoping to be able to create enough of a run rate towards the end so that we could squeeze someone in. So, the decision was made in the middle to use Dube, and they countered well", the CSK coach further added. On being asked whether CSK could have saved one more Over of Dwayne Bravo for the slog overs by giving Dube one over in the middle, the former New Zealand captain dismissed it by terming it a 'hypothetical situation' and insisted that he would like to back the decision-makers in the middle in this case. "It's hypothetical. You go back and do 20-30 of these scenarios. I'm no one to dissect the game like that. Therefore, I'll back the decision-makers in the middle, who did the best job they could", the CSK coach concluded. CSK will play their third match of the competition against the Punjab Kings on Sunday.
