The BCCI has announced the schedule for the IPL 2021 with Mumbai Indians taking on RCB in the opener on April 9 in Chennai with the final to be played on May 30. The playoffs and the final will be held in Ahmedabad.
The tournament will be held behind closed doors for now and the call on having spectators in the stands will be taken later on.
There would be 56 league matches with Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru hosting 10 games each. Delhi and Ahmedabad will have 8 matches each.
“The season will kickstart on 9th April, 2021 in Chennai with a high octane clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The World’s Largest Cricket Stadium - Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the Playoffs as well as the final on 30th May, 2021 which promises to be a visual spectacle. The newly-built stadium that hosted India’s second Pink Ball fixture at home with great grandeur will host its first ever IPL,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The statement also stated that there would be 11 double headers and the schedule has been formed in such a way that the teams will have to travel only three times in the league stage.
