Sunrisers Hyderabad have roped in West Indies batsman Sherfane Rutherford in place of Jonny Bairstow for the remainder of IPL 2021. SRH took to Twitter to make the announcement.
"The explosive Caribbean is now a #Riser!" SRH wrote on Twitter. "Sherfane Rutherford will replace Jonny Bairstow in our squad for the second phase of #IPL2021," the franchise added.
Rutherford has earlier featured in the IPL back in 2019 edition where he played 7 matches for Mumbai Indians and managed to score 73 runs.
The left-handed batsman is currently playing in the CPL for the Patriots and has been in some good touch in the competition after he has notched up over 200 runs in the season already.
A number of England players Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan had pulled out of the second phase of the Indian Premier League scheduled to commence on September 19.
SRH had been struggling to get any momentum in the first phase of the tournament after they lost six out of the seven matches that they played and were placed at the bottom of the points table.
The Hyderabad-based franchise that lifted the IPL trophy back in 2016 under the captaincy of David Warner will now begin the second leg against Delhi Capitals in Dubai on September 22.
