Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag was warned by onfield umpire Anil Chaudhary for delivering a ball under his shoulder. The incident happened during the 11th over of the first innings when the umpire had to just ask him to be a bit careful.
The ball was delivered very round-arm even more than the likes of Kedar Jadhav and Lasith Malinga. Soon after bowling that delivery, Parag got the prized wicket of Chris Gayle which helped the Rajasthan Royals to claw their way back into the match after getting a hammering during the start of the innings.
"How low is a legal sidearm delivery?" was the question asked by Harsha Bhogle on the commentary box. "Underarm deliveries are not allowed any more, as the Australians well know," he further added.
Meanwhile, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan expressed his bafflement while Michael Slater said that Parag just got away with that on that occasion.
In the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Capitals, Ravichandran Ashwin also delivered a round arm delivery which looks quite different. The spinners are trying to add as much variety as possible to unsettle the opposition batsmen in an era that is heavily dominated by batsmen.
Coming back to the match when the article was published, Punjab Kings had raced off to 130/2 in just 13 overs. Both KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda are looking in sublime touch and its ominous signs for the Rajasthan Royals.
