As KKR inch towards playoffs, focus has shifted towards its skipper’s performance in this edition of the Indian Premier League. Eoin Morgan, England's world-cup winning captain, has not contributed significantly in any of the games this season. In the last 13 games played so far, he has scored only 111 averaging just 11.10. These figures don’t do justice to a player of his stature.
While addressing a press conference after yesterday's game, he said, "I am short of runs in this phase of the tournament, the whole tournament in general. I am very lucky to be in a position where I have been through stages like this in my career. I think the longer you go without contributing a significant score, the closer you are to actually contributing. And that's coming from experience."
KKR has won 6 matches out of 13 in this season, and are currently standing at the 4th position. They have to win their next game against Rajasthan Royals in order to qualify for the playoffs. Morgan’s poor performance puts extra pressure on the top order. With Russel being injured, Morgan’s return to form becomes pertinent for the team. Although there are a few other combinations by which KKR can qualify - if MI loses both the remaining games - but KKR would not want to take that risk.
