Runners-up from the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals have provided a health update on left-arm off-spinner Axar Patel, who recently tested positive for COVID-19. Updates from the DC team management suggests that the left-arm spinner is well on way to recovery and is doing better. He is expected to join the team very soon.
Meanwhile, team director Mustafa Ghouse spoke on Sports Today and stated that the tall left-arm spinner was on his 10th day in the quarantine process and is expected to join the team in four day’s time. However, he has to clear two more COVID tests before being eligible for selection.
"Ya, Axar is better. Saturday will be day 10 of his quarantine process. Hopefully 3-4 more days, a couple of negative tests and he will be ready to join the team. We are running tests on him over the next few days to know how quickly we can get him back, available for selection," Mustafa Ghouse was quoted as saying by Sports Today during an exclusive interview.
It must be noted that the left-arm spinner who had a dream Test series debut against England checked in the DC team hotel with a negative COVID test result on March 28. However, he tested positive in his second COVID test.
"He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28 with a negative report. His report from the 2nd COVID test came positive. He is in isolation at a designated medical care facility," DC had said in their statement.
Meanwhile, Ghouse also stated that the DC skipper Shreyas Iyer who underwent surgery on his left shoulder is in constant touch with the boys and the team management after being forced to sit out for the whole of IPL 14.
"Shreyas is better. He has got sensation back in his hand which is the most important factor after the surgery. He is gutted that he is not part of the team. He is in constant touch of the boys and Ricky. All we have to do now is make sure that he is on the path of recovery and getting back to playing at the level he has been before," he further added.
