On a day that saw a captain of an Indian Premier League team step down for someone else to take over, a Twitter post from Rajasthan Royals sparked massive speculations about Steve Smith handing over the reins of Royals to Jos Buttler. It all started with the Royals official Twitter handle publishing a photograph of Jos Buttler calling him ‘Boss.’
The tweet led to people flooding the micro-blogging site with different takes while others wondered about the authenticity of the development.
Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle's first tweeted about the development in the Royals’ camp before pulling his tweet back for the lack of clarity on it. He explained his deleted tweet as a measure to be ‘doubly sure’ about the scenario of Royals’ captaincy change.
Some social media users went far too ahead and started quoting, what looked like something Steve Smith might have told the team management while discussing the captaincy transfer.
However, when the team management got the sense of the furor its post about Buttler has created on Twitter, the official handle blamed the admin for ringing false alarm albeit in a cheeky manner. Ultimately, the Rajasthan Royals management enabled Twitter to have their share of fun today.
At the end of all the drama and rounds of speculations, the Rajasthan Royals quelled all the whispers of Steve Smith stepping aside mid way in IPL 2020.
Rajasthan Royals are scheduled to take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai tomorrow and the men in pink are in desperate search of a win to get back their campaign on track.
