Rahmat Shah injured [Source: @ACBofficials/x.com]
In the latest developments, Afghanistan has suffered a significant setback with the injury of Rahmat Shah, who is now likely to miss the ODI series decider against Bangladesh. The batter suffered a calf injury in the second game of the series, and the team management doesn’t want to take further risk by playing him in the crucial ODI fixture.
Rahmat retired hurt in the second ODI, but in a heroic effort, he came back to the crease when Afghanistan had lost nine wickets. The team physio ran to the pitch as the batter was unable to stand, and the injury looked serious as he was taken off on a wheelchair.
"He (Rahmat) unfortunately succumbed to his injury so he is out now. We will do all the right things in terms of imaging and stuff tomorrow. He is going to be out for some time, I think," the physio said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Afghanistan to miss Rahmat's experience if he misses 3rd ODI
Rahmat Shah is one of the most experienced Afghan players in the side, and he is known as their middle-order stalwart who tends to stabilize their batting. If he misses out, it would be a big jolt as the team doesn’t have a like-to-like solid replacement.
Rahmat recently became the first Afghan batter to score 4,000 ODI runs, and also made a key half-century in the first match of the series against Bangladesh.
Who could replace Rahmat Shah if he misses the 3rd ODI
If Rahmat Shah misses the third game, Afghanistan has limited options to replace him. However, Ikram AliKhil could be their only hope in the middle order. He has decent numbers, and could come in as a short-term replacement.
